Dr. Augustine Ramirez 1928 - 2015
Augustine Ramirez was born in Corona, California to an immigrant family. Dr. Ramirez grew up and attended school in Norco. He credits his mother with encouraging him to have a better life and pushed him to achieve his dreams. Dr. Ramirez knew early on that he wanted to teach children. His career dreams were to earn a doctorate from USC and to be the superintendent of schools in his hometown. He achieved both of these dreams through hard work and education.
Graduating from Corona High School, Dr. Ramirez attended college at U.C. Santa Barbara. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Spanish. He began his career as a Spanish teacher at Fontana High School in Fontana, CA. Dr. Ramirez soon was hired to teach in Corona, for 22 and a half years he was a teacher and administrator in the Corona-Norco School District. Dr. Ramirez credits his wife, Connie, who shouldered many of the family's responsibilities while he did his graduate work to obtain his Doctorate in Education from USC for his success. Three years after completing the program at USC, Dr. Ramirez was hired in 1977 as Superintendent of Schools for Corona-Norco Unified School District. Dr. Ramirez was the first Hispanic superintendent in the district's history. He served as superintendent for six and a half years.
In 1984, Dr. Ramirez was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services for San Bernardino County Schools where he eventually retired after a forty year career in education. Dr. Ramirez is known for leaving a legacy of respect for students, parents and staff. He inspires and encourages others to strive to achieve their dreams by serving home, community and country.
