Empowering Digital Citizens at Ramirez Intermediate

At Ramirez Intermediate, technology is a powerful tool for learning, creating, and connecting. However, navigating the digital world requires practice, critical thinking, and strong character. That is why we actively teach our students how to be responsible digital citizens—both inside and outside the classroom.

Our Digital Citizenship Commitment

To ensure every student starts on the right foot, all students are expected to complete our digital citizenship curriculum within 60 days of enrolling at Ramirez Intermediate. Because the digital landscape changes rapidly, this foundational training is reinforced with updated lessons taught each and every year.

A Note to Parents: Navigating Online Challenges Together

While technology opens incredible doors, it also brings significant challenges. Two of the biggest hurdles our middle schoolers face today are online distractions and cyberbullying. Apps, notifications, and group chats can easily pull focus away from academics, sleep, and face-to-face relationships.

We cannot do this alone. We strongly ask all parents to actively monitor their student's social media accounts, direct messages, and overall screen time. Staying involved is the best way to protect your child's well-being and help them make smart choices online. When digital drama or bullying occurs, taking the right steps quickly makes all the difference. Please use the following guidelines depending on where the issue is taking place:

If an instance of cyberbullying impacts the school environment or involves Ramirez students:

• Take Action: Immediately take screenshots of the activity, messages, or posts (do not rely on disappearing messages).

• Contact Us: Reach out directly to the School Assistant Principal or Dean of Students so we can investigate and support the students involved.

If online harassment occurs entirely outside of the school environment (such as on private gaming servers or personal community threads):

• Report Directly: Contact the social media or app provider immediately to report the harassment and request that the violating content be removed.

• Extreme Cases: If you detect threats of violence, explicit danger, or severe safety violations, please notify local law enforcement by contacting the Riverside Sheriff’s Department.
