How You Can Help Your Child

  • Provide your child with a structured place to do work
    • Away from distractions
  • Set a regular time for work completion
    • A minimum of 1 -2 hours daily
  • Help your child stay organized
    • Provide supplies
  • Help your child set achievable academic daily/weekly goals
  • Self-Nourishment/Care
    • Have snacks and something for them to drink
    • Take brain breaks from online activities (every 15 minutes)
  • Be aware of changes in your child’s sleeping & eating habits
  • Monitor your child’s internet & technology use
  • Be Interested
    • Ask them about their progress and be ready with a “show me” or “tell me more” when they respond with just OK.
  • Communicate with your child’s teachers when you have concerns
    • View your child’s teachers as partners in promoting academic achievement
  • Encourage them to read, read, and read
    • Ask them a question about anything, for example, why is the sky blue? … And have them research it.
