**WHAT IS ACCELERATED MATH 7?
**This is a very advanced/rigorous course. Accelerated Math 7 focuses on the completion of all Math 7 standards,
while also integrating many of the Math 8 standards into the curriculum. The intent of this course is to
prepare students for Integrated Math I in grade 8. In short, students will cover 7th and 8th grade math in one year. This means that we will be going through topics at a much quicker pace.

The seventh grade accelerated curriculum focuses on six critical areas:

(1) Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems

(2) Extend and apply previous understanding of operations with fractions and decimals to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers and the rules of exponents

(3) Writing, interpreting, and using expressions, equations, and inequalities

(4)Develop an understanding of statistical thinking along with understanding of theoretical and experimental probability

(5) Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume

(6) Solve, analyze, create and graph linear equations as well as define, evaluate, and compare functions

**Yes! Cellphones & tablets will be permitted in class for educational purposes; however, when we are not using them for class, they should be SILENT and put away.

**GRADING: WHAT TO EXPECT...

**Standards-based grading:**

Grades in this class will be a reflection of how well you have mastered each of the learning objectives (standards) by the end of the semester. Assessments will be graded using the following 4-point scale:

** **A (4 points) – Exceeds standard

B (3 points) – Standard met

C (2 points) – At/near standard

D (1 points) – Standard not met

F (0 points) - No evidence (failure to attempt or submit)

CAN I DO A RETAKE? IS THERE ANY EXTRA CREDIT?
**There are no extra credit assignments available in this class. However, in an effort to learn from your mistakes, you may retake any quiz throughout a unit to improve your understanding of the topic. In order to qualify for a quiz retake, you must:

-Complete all classwork and homework assignments that correspond to that quiz

-Correct the problems you missed on the original quiz

-Provide a brief explanation of your mistakes

-Come in during lunch or after school on Thursday to retake the quiz

*You will be given a new version of the quiz. The grade you earn on the retake will replace the original grade (higher, lower, or the same). The deadline for all quiz retakes is the day before the corresponding unit test.***WILL THERE BE HOMEWORK IN THIS CLASS?**

Each student will receive a planner the first week of school. All assignments will be posted on the board and should be carefully copied into your planner. Homework is assigned each night and is due the next day unless otherwise noted. **Late work will not be accepted without a valid written excuse from a parent/guardian.**

**WHAT IF I AM ABSENT?**

Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. Classwork and homework assignments are posted online. Please make sure you copy them into your planner. Each student should have the phone number of at least two reliable students in the class to call/text for missed work. I will do my best to help all students make up work when they are absent. Students should see me if they miss a test or quiz ASAP. Missed tests and quizzes are made up during lunch or after school.

**WHAT IF I NEED EXTRA HELP?**

The math department offers math help every Thursday after school from 2:30 to 3:15. During this time, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other students and a math teacher will be available to answer any questions you may have. Locations will be posted online and in the classroom. I am also available during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 12:30 if you need extra help, need to make up a test, or need to discuss your progress in my class.
